Finding Your Home in Chicago

Finding Your Home in Chicago

Real_Estate_Gold_Coast_of_Chicago_Illinois_homesOver the years, I’ve heard from my clients that their relocation to a new city was made much easier, because they could come home after a hard day’s work at a new job to a home they love. “Home,” however, means more than just the property you’ll move into; it also encompasses the neighborhood where you’ll live. So I encourage you to explore Chicago, both online before you come here to begin your home search and after you’ve viewed some properties, too.

But while online research can give you helpful first impressions, nothing can replace the firsthand knowledge you can gain by seeing Chicago’s neighborhoods with someone who’s very familiar them. That’s why our property visits will also be tours of the different neighborhoods they’re in. You may already have an idea about areas and properties you’d like to investigate, and those are easily incorporated into your personalized tours, so you can get familiar with a wide variety of neighborhoods and housing types: condominiums, townhouses and single-family homes, to name just a few.

On your tours, you’ll get a feel for each neighborhood and learn things like the types of housing and properties in each of them, along with their proximity to those things that are most important to you. Perhaps:

  • Your new place of employment
  • Schools, parks and recreation
  • Shopping, services, dining, entertainment and cultural institutions
  • Public transportation, major highways, airports and train stations

Still, I know that moving a home, whether purchasing or renting, is more involved than just looking at properties. It’s a process that shouldn’t be rushed. Unfortunately, when you’re relocating, you don’t always have the luxury of time. But that doesn’t mean your search can’t still be thorough, and I’ll see to it that it is.

To add to your own list of properties to visit, each day I’ll send you any new listings of properties I think meet your needs and wants in neighborhoods where you might like to live. When we have enough viable options, I’ll make appointments to view them. And we’ll go on as many tours as takes—or that your timeline allows—for you to find the right property and neighborhood.

Tours can be a few hours long or last all day, and are planned to accommodate your schedule. This is your time, and I’m there to spend it with you the way you want to spend it. During each tour, we can discuss the properties and neighborhoods we see that day, comparing them to others we’ve already seen. I can ask the questions that will help focus your perspective to narrow your search and make it more productive.

After all, our goal is to make you informed, so you can make a confident and educated decision, not only about a property you’ll want to call home but also about an area you’ll be glad to call “my neighborhood.”
